In a project funded by the Birmingham Foundation, Awaken Pittsburgh is working with the Hilltop Family Care Center in collaboration with UPMC Children’s Hospital.
About the Birmingham Foundation
The Birmingham Foundation is a private (independent) community-focused foundation dedicated to investing in early childhood education and development.
The mission of the Birmingham Foundation is to “serve as a change agent for children in South Pittsburgh through the dynamic use of resources such as grant making, information-sharing, partnering and leveraging of assets.”
The Birmingham Foundation was created with the assets from the sale of South Side Hospital. Our target area includes 12 communities, among which are Allentown, Arlington, Beltzhoover, Carrick, Knoxville, Mt. Oliver, Mt. Washington, St. Clair Village and the South Side (zip codes 15203, 15210 and 15211).
About UPMC Hilltop Family Care Center
Family Care Connection in Hilltop/Mt. Oliver is a unique center serving multicultural families in a warm and welcoming environment. Located next door to Family Dollar in Mt. Oliver, the center is handicap-accessible with on-site parking.
Their goal is to help families throughout the initial stages of parenthood, and through children’s early development from pregnancy through age 5. Staff are certified in the Nurturing Parenting and Parents as Teachers curricula.
Awaken’s Impact
Awaken Pittsburgh offers mindfulness training for all skill levels, including beginners just like you. Our introductory program introduces a spectrum of practices that can benefit all levels. Once you’re on your way, we offer programs to build your mindfulness practice into long-term habits.
Since 2016, we have delivered programs to 305 educators, 37 school support staff, 174 youth, 33 people in recovery, seven people recently released from prison, 93 helping professionals and 25 public-facing workers.
